The 5 Most Popular Posts of 2019

The 5 Most Popular Posts of 2019

This fall, we really ramped up our blogging! Several of our ministries created separate blog pages for their news and events that feed into their ministries’ pages (here’s Outreach). We’ve been sharing most of these posts through the weekly updates and our social media profiles.

Some of last year’s most popular content on our website came from these posts. Here’s a rundown:

1. “The Hope That Lieth Within" (11/3 PM)

Rand Hummel 2019.11.03.png

We got to hear about new member Meredith Keen’s cancer testimony, and Meredith’s Wilds of New England coworker Rand Hummel shared the gospel. This was our second post after announcing the service ahead of time, and other churches even tuned in. It was a privilege to share the evening with them!

2. Holiday Service Schedule - 2019 (Christmas and New Year’s Day were both on Wednesdays this year—and Thanksgiving went from the 22nd to the 28th!)

3. Always Good: Gratitude for Majesty Music

At our annual homecoming service in October, we heard from Frank Garlock. It was the day after his wife’s funeral. Our homecoming photos post was popular too, with a lot of great pics thanks to our new photo team.

4. Five Balances in Our Church's Music

(Each of these balances is debatable, but each one is important to us.)

5. The Incredible Race VBS 2019

We had a great turnout for VBS! The event’s main page was very popular too. We’re already making plans for Mystery Island in June 2020!

Other Popular Pages

Keith's Story

This was still one of the most popular pages of 2019. October 24 marked 2 years since the end of Keith’s watch.

Kennedy House Renovation

It was great to see the transformation of the Kennedy House after a year of hard work by many people. We’ve housed over 100 guests now. One recent guest, missionary Matt Murphree, told us the Kennedy House was the first place a church could give each of his seven children a bed of their own!

Men of Integrity

Men of Integrity

Last month, more than 70 men attended our annual men’s conference. Dr. Marshall Fant III spoke on being men of integrity.

“A Portrait of Integrity” focused on the life of Daniel. In “The Power of Integrity,” he reminded us of the importance of forgiveness. And he closed by outlining how to walk in the Spirit—”The Walk of Integrity.” Lots of great food and time for fellowship was included, of course! Thanks to Larry Schmid and the crew for a job well done.

How has the Lord used integrity in your life?

Soup Donation

Thank you to those who donated soup in January! We were able to give 20 boxes of soup to our ministry partner, Greenville Rescue Mission. Please pray that as homeless men are fed, they will also be changed by the Gospel.

Want to get more involved and make a difference beyond donating supplies? Consider volunteering your time or becoming a mentor to men and women at the Greenville Rescue Mission.

Leading Sinners Home - Missions Conference 2020

We are excited and looking forward to our upcoming missions conference starting February 23rd. Our theme is “Leading Sinners Home.” Here in our community and around the world, Satan is blinding the lost to keep them from the glorious light of the Gospel (2 Cor. 4:4-6). But God shines his Gospel light through us so that we may share the Good News here in Greenville and continue to send missionaries to advance the Gospel and make disciples among the uttermost. Pray that God will stir all of our hearts to follow the disciples’ example and lead many sinners home to Jesus.

During the conference there will be an interactive exhibit in the mall area highlighting Hispanic peoples to inform and stir (children and adults) our hearts for reaching Hispanic neighbors and nations for Christ. We will also be receiving a special missions offering during the conference to be divided and help with the following four missionary projects mentioned below:

Speakers:

Paul Seger (Sun, Feb 23), General Director of Biblical Ministries Worldwide

Jim Tillotson (Sun, Mar 1), President of Faith Baptist Bible College

Pastor Smith (Wed, Feb 26), Open Door Baptist Missions Director - Pastor Smith will be sharing about a recent trip to Myanmar and opportunities to lead sinners home among unreached people groups.

Missions Offering Projects:

1)    Grace Baptist Theological College & Seminary (En Khan Kham & Hung Kim, Myanmar) – About a year ago, missionary Hung Kim gave an update at Morningside and shared about their project to build a new college and seminary campus.  They have made great progress within the last year but are lacking funds to complete the two primary buildings.   https://www.baptistworldmission.org/project/gbtc-and-seminary-building-myanmar/

2)    Suhento Liauw (Indonesia) – Pastor Smith and Kim Kuhr visited the Liauws last summer. Their ministry consists of an orphanage, Christian School, Bible College and churches established on two campuses in Jakarta and Borneo. They are praying and seeking to build a multi-purpose pavilion on their Borneo rural campus for sports, fellowship and ministry activities.

3)    Crossroad Baptist (Ryan Horkavy) – We rejoice with the Horkavys and the Crossroad family for the completion of their new church building.  There remains a need of about $22,000 for parking lot lights, video projector and other audio/visual equipment.   https://www.crossroad-az.org

 4)    Hope for Reno (Stephen Wess & James Tilson) – We are excited about God’s leading of the Stephen Wess, James Tilson and Andy Gleiser families to plant a new church in Reno, Nevada. We are giving to help with startup costs and equipment for their church plant.   https://hopeforreno.com

Pie & Praise

This past Sunday night, about 500 Morningsiders gathered to give thanks through song, God’s Word and fellowship. One of our missionaries, Dan Cadavos, who recently lost his wife, shared an update and message from God’s Word. He talked about his recent struggles of losing his wife and yet the blessings of how God is using these circumstances for good and God’s glory to bring others to Himself.

Following the service, members and attendees enjoyed a smorgasbord of delicious pies and wonderful fellowship. Kids’ activities added some fun to the fellowship. Thanks to so many who brought in homemade and store bought pies! Thanks to others as well, who spent time planning, setting up, serving and cleaning up afterward! Fostering Hope

Fostering Hope

According to Miracle Hill Ministries, “there’s a dire need for foster families in South Carolina. The numbers are ever-changing, but on any given day there are more than 4,600 children in foster care in our state, yet there are only around 2,800 South Carolina foster families. That means there are around 1,800 children in our state with no place to call home.” In Greenville County alone, there are over 650 children with only 357 licensed families in our county. We would love to see foster families coming from Morningside, so that these children can be pointed to Christ. This is a mission field in your home!

For those prayerfully considering foster care, please join us on Tuesday, November 19 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the JL Mann high school to learn more. During the evening, you will learn how to begin the licensing process for foster care and and how to support families currently in foster care. Free childcare is provided during the event. Registration is required. Register here to participate.

Omar and Patricia Barahona

  • Joined: Aug. 4

  • The Barahona family participates in the Hispanic ministry at MBC.

  • Omar and Patricia have both accepted Christ as their personal Savior. As Patricia said, “I am convinced that (God) sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross to cleanse us from our sins, that His love and mercy are infinite, and that only with His forgiveness I can have eternal life.” Both Omar and Patricia have demonstrated their faith by being baptized.

Brianna Howell

  • Joined: Aug. 11

  • Deacon: Ben Plumb

  • Attends: Pursue

  • Brianna was raised in Honduras where her parents are missionaries. She remembers praying a salvation prayer when she was four because her mom wanted her to, not because she understood her need for a Savior. When she was eight years old, however, she started doubting salvation and God. Her sister encouraged her to talk to their parents. They answered her questions then explained the plan of salvation to her. Brianna accepted Christ’s work on her behalf and has since seen God work in amazing ways in her life.

  • Joined: Aug. 18

  • Deacon: Scott Krystowiak

  • When Dan was in junior high, he asked God’s forgiveness for his sins during a revival meeting and was baptized the following spring in a pond. However, he questioned whether his decision was based on true repentance or emotion for the next few years. He prayed a prayer of genuine repentance in the early 1970s and was baptized again. Sherry came to Christ in the basement of a friend’s house at a child evangelism meeting. The teaching reinforced that of her parents. She saw her need for salvation and accepted Christ’s sacrifice for her sins.

Grandparents Sunday

Grandparents Sunday

Sunday we celebrated our first-ever Grandparents Day with over 1200 in attendance! Pastor Crockett preached from Psalm 145 and challenged us and our guests to praise God’s works to the next generation. He also admonished Morningside’s multi-generational church to create dialogue and discipleship between the generations.

During our 9:15 and 10:30 services, grandparents were recognized with thankful applause. Teens and children honored grandparents by singing “Make My Life an Alleluia” and “Oh, How He Loves You and Me.”

Grandparents were offered free portraits by Jennifer Davisson Photography in between our services. Those who took advantage of the free portraits will receive an email in approximately two weeks. Thank you to Jennifer Davisson and team for creating memorable photos for our Morningside grandparents and grandchildren! https://jenniferdavisson.photography
