Reading of Revelation

Thursday, September 15, experience the Book of Revelation in a dramatic multimedia reading with guest Annette Pait, with refreshments to follow (5:30-7:00 PM, Chapel).

Through John’s pen, Jesus invites us to see what is ahead. Jesus rules. He destroys evil. He dwells with His saints. Revelation is hope in a dark world. This event is appropriate for ages 6 and up.

Our calendar for the rest of 2022 is available on our senior adults home page.

Sacred Concert with Evangelist Ken Lynch

Sacred Concert with Evangelist Ken Lynch

On August 18, 60 of our senior adults gathered for a sacred concert with Evangelist Ken Lynch.

After we shared a potluck lunch, Brother Lynch shared classic hymns on the violin, synthesizer, bandurria, vibraharp, and musical glasses. His testimony of salvation in his teenage years—after beginning music ministry—was convicting and encouraging.

Our September activity is Annette Pait’s Thursday evening reading of the Book of Revelation.. Our calendar for the rest of 2022 is available on our senior adults home page.

July Singspiration

July Singspiration

On July 18, several dozen of our senior adults gathered for a singspiration.

We chose favorites from our hymnal and from our supplement. Pastors Ontoy and Jones and Gene Kirschbaum provided the leadership and accompaniment with piano and accordion.

We began with a potluck lunch.

We enjoyed the video report from June’s mission trip to Source of Light Ministries. The Bate/Buckley Quartet had sung “What a Day That Will Be” on the trip and sang it again for us.

Annette Pait even introduced our September activity, a Thursday evening reading of the Book of Revelation.

Our next activity is August 18 with evangelist Ken Lynch. Our calendar for the rest of 2022 is available on our senior adults home page.

New Leadership for Senior Adults

Steve and Dottie Buckley led Morningside Senior Adults 2015-21 and began assisting Pastor Myron Williams in 1998. Pastor Crockett recognized Steve and Dottie during the 12/9/21 AM service.

At the end of 2021 Steve and Dottie passed the leadership of our senior adults ministry to Kim and Chris Kuhr. The Kuhrs are excited about taking up the leadership mantle. They immediately began creating a list of monthly activities. We are thankful for their energy, enthusiasm, and leadership.

The Buckleys continue to serve, including leading the 2022 senior adults mission trip to Source of Light Ministries.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BANQUET – DECEMBER 4

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BANQUET – DECEMBER 4

Nearly 100 Morningside seniors attended this December’s Annual Christmas Banquet. Tables were decorated by several of our ladies. The Youth sponsors and young people prepared and served a delicious meal. After a time for fellowship, an encouraging program of music and Scripture reading was provided by our teenagers. Pastor Jeff Webb concluded with a stirring challenge about God’s amazing grace illustrated by Christ Jesus’ coming to earth and dwelling among us.

A generous love offering was taken to support the Summer 2022 Youth Mission Trip. If you missed the opportunity and would like to give towards this endeavor, please designate your offering to Youth Summer Mission Trip in the offering boxes.

Many folks picked up a list of our MBC Shut-ins to send them Christmas cards this month. Additional trifold copies of this list are available on the Seniors credenza in the church lobby.

Senior Adult Conference at the Wilds – Nov 2-5

Senior Adult Conference at the Wilds – Nov 2-5

The Seniors Conference at The Wilds during the first week of November was a tremendous blessing to those who attended.

The theme for the week was, “Strong Til the End.” Biblical messages from Dr. Les Ollila inspired listeners to put their confidence in God alone, to live a Christ-centered life, to walk closer to God, to thank God in the midst of suffering, and ultimately to reflect God’s attributes and glory to others.

The Wilds camp near Rosman, NC, provided comfortable housing, great meals, Christ-centered music, heartwarming entertainment, and ample opportunities to enjoy Fall in the Smoky Mountains. The fall colors were in full display. A special excursion to Waynesville, NC, offered participants an additional time of sightseeing and fellowship.

Make plans now to attend a future Senior Adult Conference at The Wilds and join other senior saints in a time of fellowship and inspiration from God’s Word.

Saturday, September 11, 2021 - Picnic and Pontoon Rides at the Ludwigs

We were blessed with a sunny day and pleasant temperatures at Ric and Brenda’s lakeside home near Laurens.  Seniors brought a variety of dishes to complement Ric’s delicious BBQ pork and grilled chicken.  After a wonderful time of fellowship inside during the luncheon, many took a pontoon boat ride on the lake enjoying God’s great creation. It was a relaxing experience for all who attended. Thank you Ric and Brenda for hosting this activity.

Luncheon and Hymn Sing

Morningside seniors along with a few senior saints from Trinity and Cornerstone met together for a time of fellowship and singing in our newly renovated chapel.  Doug Lowery led the music program, accompanied by Jeanette Miller.

A variety of special numbers were shared between a series of hymns that the attendees enjoyed singing throughout the program. Doug and Donna sang a special duet that he had written earlier in their evangelism ministry.  Lance Flower shared a word of encouragement that introduced his inspirational piano specials. Steve Buckley and Jerry Gass sang a couple duets.  Hillary Rumminger sang a solo number that complemented George Eastergard’s personal testimony.  Don and Sharon Krueger shared a special a capella duet. The words to their “spiritual” number were authored by Don Orthner and put to music by Don Kruger. The event was well attended by over 75 participants and enjoyed by all.

Please check out upcoming activities that are listed on our Seniors Calendar of Events.

Lacock Family Appreciation Reception

The sons and daughters of Julie and Mel Lacock hosted a Volunteers’ Appreciation Reception after the Sunday evening service on July 25 to thank all the Morningside volunteers who helped their folks prepare the house for listing, manage a Moving Sale, and load the moving truck.

Jerry, their youngest son, shared a letter of appreciation from each of the siblings. They expressed their appreciation to the 70 Morningside volunteers who have helped over the past 4 months.

Julie shared her appreciation for all the support she received during the challenging process of sorting, packing, and moving after 33 years in their Simpsonville home.  She was thankful for how the Lord graciously provided for all their needs.

Pastor Miller honored the Lacocks for their missionary service in Taiwan, their faithful years of service at Morningside, and Mel’s creation and production of Won-on-One, a discipleship booklet for new believers. Mel continues to print this resource and distribute it around the world.

PPT video (linked to video) was shown during the reception. It highlights some of the ways Morningsiders were a blessing to the Lacocks during this transition time.

On Tuesday, July 27, the Lacocks finalized the sale of their house and moved to Atlanta to live closer to one of their son’s, Tim, and his family.  In this process, we claimed Isaiah 41:10 with Julie and Mel: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Dementia - A Loved One's Journey

Morningside Seniors enjoying a time of food and fellowship on May 13.

Our guest speaker, Thomas Haas (Complete Homecare of America), provided an informative presentation on the different types and stages of dementia.  As some of our senior friends and loved ones are on this difficult journey, it is good to know how to better understand and encourage one another. It is helpful to learn of resources like Complete Homecare of America that are available to assist.

Fellowship Renewed

On March 25 just over 30 attended our first 2021 Morningside Seniors activity at Morningside.

Joe Martin introduced the time of fellowship with an interesting game called What's in a Name. After identifying answers to a variety of clues, we had to figure out what book in the Bible had each answer within the spelling of that book.

The highlight of the event was Kim Kuhr sharing how God blessed the theological book collection project for Grace College and Seminary in Myanmar. R. D., an ODBM candidate, also shared her experience and desire to serve in Asia.

After the presentations, we all enjoyed some packaged refreshments and an additional time of fellowship. It was a blessing to be together.
